Substance Use Disorders
Hope, Help and Recovery.
Substance use disorders, sometimes more commonly known as addiction, are complicated. We understand that. It is difficult to find anyone whose life hasn’t been touched in some way by substance use. Horizon Health Services offer numerous outpatient treatment services for individuals and their families including counseling and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
We believe in providing individuals rapid access to medications including buprenorphine, suboxone and vivitrol to reduce their symptoms and cravings. Horizon medical providers prescribe these medications to persons enrolled in our counseling services.
Specialized services are available for adolescents & adults. The role of the family is critical for patients’ recovery and strongly encourage family involvement in treatment. We also recognize the importance of continuing support after treatment to sustain ongoing recovery.

Harm Reduction
Embedded within substance use treatment are harm reduction principles and techniques. Harm reduction techniques, are not unique to behavioral health for example: wearing sunscreen, using a seatbelt. They are public health measures taken to reduce risk and harm both to individuals and the community. Horizon recognizes the uniqueness of all individuals. Patients maintain a right to choose the recommendations that fit, and providers need to meet the patient where they are in the continuum of behavioral change. Strategies for meeting patients where they are include but are not limited to:
- Medications to decrease or manage urges and cravings:
- Suboxone
- Subutex
- Sublocade
- Naltrexone
- Campral
- NARCAN (naloxone) to reverse the effects of potentially fatal opioid overdoses
- Fentanyl rapid response testing to understand the presence of fentanyl in substances
- Education and awareness on strategies like the Never Use Alone hotline 1-800-997-2280
- Information and referrals to needle exchange programs and education on how to reduce the risk of transmissible diseases associated with use
