We are stronger together.
The Horizon family is committed to listening, learning, leading and standing in solidarity with the black community. We believe this is an ongoing conversation that involves education, advocacy, and action in order to continually support our patients and community as a whole.
We have no tolerance for racism, discrimination or harassment. This is a universal problem and we will work together toward a solution as this has a direct impact on our mission of recovery.
Horizon’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council (DEIB) was established in 2014 to develop, implement, and promote its cultural philosophies in treatment, among staff, and within the community. The council’s mission is to empower our staff to be sensitive and receptive to patients’, co-workers’ and communities’ cultural beliefs, attitudes and practices. The council’s strategic initiatives include training, policy, and workforce development, agency communications, patient resources, and community engagement using CLAS Standards and the “Cultural Humility” framework by Melanie Tervalon and Jann Murray-Garcia (1998) to inform decision-making. While a lot has been accomplished, there is so much more to be done!
Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council is working diligently to bring forth additional resources, best practices, approaches, and training for everyone at Horizon and our community as a whole. We have put together the below Stronger Together action plan and will continue to update you on the steps we are taking both internally and externally.
Horizon Stronger Together Action Plan
CHANGE BEGINS NOW.
Horizon commits to being an anti-racist, diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization. Through self-reflection and the following actions, we pledge to advance equity, racial justice, and equal opportunity for all. We can and will do better.
We will hold ourselves accountable to measurable results and real change.
We deliver you the Horizon Action Plan to advance diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging in our company and in our hearts. The following commitments will be the foundation upon which all Horizon DEIB initiatives will be built.
Commitment #1: Understanding, advancing, and celebrating diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging will become a cornerstone of Horizon culture. Every current and future Horizon team member will be immersed in our “Stronger Together” program that involves learning modules, panels, trainings, awareness campaigns, and giveback opportunities.
Commitment #2: We will make it a priority to continually increase workplace diversity of underrepresented groups at all levels of our organization and consistently be transparent on our progress.
Commitment #3: We will cultivate meaningful relationships to expand our network, give back to the communities we serve, and collaborate with organizations who also share in DEIB values.
