Q&A with Morgan
What made you choose Horizon?
When looking for a job, I appreciated that Horizon is well-established in the WNY community and is willing to hire new graduates. This was inviting to me, as some other Master of Social Work job opportunities required prior experience to be considered for the position. Horizon offered an extensive onboarding and training process that helped ease my anxiety as a new graduate. Because of this, I knew I would not just be “thrown into” the work of my new job without training wheels.
How has your education shaped your career?
My undergraduate program at Syracuse University was essential in educating me on various founders and theories of psychology. It is important to have this foundational knowledge to better understand the brain, human behavior, relationships, and different types of therapy practice.
My graduate program at the University at Buffalo was helpful in teaching me how to work effectively with people, groups, communities, and other systems of various backgrounds. I learned important information on micro, mezzo, and macro levels of practice.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
My days usually consist of meeting with clients, maybe leading a group therapy session, and weekly case conference and team meetings. Every day is different, and never is it boring!
What keeps you motivated in your role?
Opportunities for clinical and leadership development. My journey at Horizon has been dynamic and has taught me a lot about myself as well. Having these experiences in my role is invaluable. Additionally, the privilege to engage in fulfilling working relationships with clients has been a joy.
What is your favorite Horizon perk/benefit?
It’s hard to pick one. I have met wonderful people at Horizon. The relationships I have formed have been essential to my satisfaction at the job, as I have learned so much from colleagues and genuinely enjoy being around them. I also appreciate the training opportunities, generous PTO, and substantial pay.
