New Family-Oriented Additions to the Horizon Village Campus

June 12th, 2015

A key element of successful recovery from substance abuse is the repair of stressed or severed family relationships. Horizon Village provides intensive programming to reunify families through treatment and recreational activities. We recognize that family involvement is essential for residents’ recovery, and for the health and development of residents’ children.

Pic for Jen 1In order to accomplish the reunification of families and to assist the children of residents affected by their parents’ substance abuse, Horizon Village operates a formal Family Program. Because of this donation, the playground and pavilion will be used by residents’ children when they attend Family Program activities.

“For over 95 years, generous individuals, families and organizations have entrusted the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo to steward their charitable resources to causes they care about,” said Jean McKeown, Community Foundation Vice President. “Our mission is to improve lives in Western New York, and we are honored to help our clients make the most of their generosity and support Horizon Village’s efforts toward providing a healthy life for children and families.”

Treatment at HV includes residents exploring their role as parents and how their behavior affects their children’s development and their children’s perceptions of appropriate adult and parental behavior. “The playground and pavilion at the Horizon Village Campus is an incredible asset to our family programming and we are honored to receive this donation from the Community Foundation,” said Anne Constantino, President and CEO of Horizon. “The play set and pavilion provide opportunities for residents and their families to re-link their children, from who they have been separated from, strengthen their mutual attachment and bonding and help residents learn or resume healthy relationships with their children and families.”
