Horizon’s Vocational and Educational Rehabilitation Services are designed to help individuals recovering from substance abuse or mental health disorders, make a smooth transition back into the workforce.

Your path to success starts at Horizon.

From skill testing and career exploration to interview preparation and job placement, Horizon’s vocational and education services are designed to lead you down a path to success. Our proven process includes the following steps:

Step 1: Assessment & Support

Through a series of assessments we’ll help you identify your key skills and positive work behaviors. You’ll learn about your strengths, weaknesses and interests. Then we’ll help develop a plan to enhance your skills and identify specific jobs that you’ll be successful in.

Step 2: Job Search Assistance
You’ll receive targeted training to help adjust to specific work settings and help improve job skills.
A career counselor will work with you on job search skills, including:

  • Resume writing
  • Cover letter/applications
  • Interviewing
  • Stress management
  • Effective job search techniques

Step 3: Job Development and Placement
Your career counselor will work with you to find a job that matches your skills and interests and provides fair compensation. Your counselor will help:

  • Identify job leads
  • Match individual skills with abilities to specific job requirements and functions
  • Respond to and develop job opportunities in the community

Step 4: Ongoing Support
We offer you a variety of continued support options to ensure you find employment opportunities that are a fit. Our ongoing support options include:

  • Job Club – Job club provides a highly-structured group approach to placement, combining instruction, positive reinforcement and direct client involvement in the job search.
  • Success Skills Groups – This group is for individuals who are currently in the job search process. These monthly meetings consist of interview and job search refresher skills. Individuals in this group discuss employment concerns and work together to solve job search issues. General topics include:
    • Self-concept and self-esteem
    • Stress management
    • Nutrition/hygiene
    • Budgeting money
    • Time management
    • Ethics

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the career opportunity services, you will need a referral from your current counselor.
