Do I need a web cam?
No, although you may connect via a secure webcam, you may also connect with a web chat or by phone. For the best video quality, connect via a “wired” Internet connection. It’s really your preference.
Can I choose whom I’d like to speak with?
Yes, you may select a consultant using the profiles of our professional counselors, or choose a consultant who has open hours at the time you wish to have your session.
What happens if the counselor is busy?
Horizon has a skilled chemical dependency clinician available online 30 hours each week. If the counselor is in a session, you will be placed in a waiting room.
How long is the consultation?
Online consultations last on average 30 minutes. In the majority of cases, this is sufficient time. If you or the counselor believe more time is needed, there is an option to extend the consultation session for an additional 10 minutes.
Is it REALLY free?
There is no cost to families and significant others due to funding received from The Peter & Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation and The Kelly for Kids Foundation.
Can anyone take advantage of this service?
While this service is open to anyone — we are particularly poised to communicate with family members, parents, and significant others to answer questions and respond to concerns regarding drug or alcohol use/abuse by a loved one. Our counselors will help you discover methods to encourage a loved one to accept help and engage in treatment. While this is not a treatment service, counselors will provide direction and assistance with linking to appropriate treatment.
