Horizon Corporations Names Kristin Ahrens, M.D. To The Position Of Medical Director

BUFFALO, NY – Anne Constantino, president and CEO of Horizon Corporations, announces the appointment of Kristin Ahrens, M.D. to the position of medical director. In her new position, Dr. Ahrens will oversee all psychiatric services for Horizon’s 10 clinics in Erie, Niagara and Genesee counties, including psychiatric assessments and follow-up care, specialty clinics, including the Clozaril clinic, and the program for prenatal and postpartum depression.

 “Dr. Ahrens’ leadership abilities, experience and vision for community mental health made her the perfect candidate for this position,” says Constantino. “Her focus on quality of care and recovery-oriented treatment will benefit our consumers and the community as a whole.  We are very excited to be working with her.”

Dr. Ahrens joined Horizon in 2005 as staff psychiatrist and was instrumental in implementing Horizon’s program for treating pregnant women and new mothers who are experiencing depression.

A magna cum laude graduate with a doctorate in medicine from the University at Buffalo, Dr. Ahrens earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from William Smith College. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the New York State Psychiatric Association, the Western New York Psychiatric Association and the Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. She was honored with the Clinical Teacher of the Year award by the Residency Training Program in Psychiatry and was the recipient of the Resident Service Award in recognition of her outstanding service to the department of psychiatry at UB.

Dr. Ahrens will also continue her duties as assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at UB’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She resides in the city of Buffalo.
